HGA’s Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Wins National ACEC Engineering Excellence Award MILWAUKEE, Wis. — HGA Architect and Engineers has won a National Recognition Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies 2014 Engineering Excellence Awards competition for Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, KY.
In healthcare, “patient-centered” lean design is the holy grail of lean design. While the traditional lean approach is about trying to make every process efficient, patient-centered lean design is about making only those processes that are important to the patient efficient.
In 2005, Henry Ford Health Systems hired Albert Kahn Associates and Turner Construction to build a new 300-bed hospital in suburban West Bloomfield, Michigan. The three-story, 730,000 square-foot hospital design featured ten operating rooms with identical layouts, all fitted with green-tinted lighting to help surgeons see tiny objects during operations.
